A Satnav for Christmas
Before you buy the system, check how much
space is available in the car. A smaller device is best, because it can also be
slipped into a pocket or handbag if need be.
These are handy features to look for in a
new Satnav system:
A wide range of
route options will ensure that you do not find yourself off the map when you
need it most.
Some
Satnavs come with information on places of interest already installed.
Traffic and route
planner information, weather and upcoming speed limit information is really
handy.
A
large screen is best, for quick checks while driving and easier viewing when
stationary.
Postcode
navigation is a great convenience, so look for a Satnav which comes equipped
with this function.
The spoken
instructions should be clear, and if necessary, look for one which offer
directions in a choice of languages.
If possible, try to find out if the
recipient of the gift is willing to pay extra car insurance to cover the device, or if
his or her car
insurance already offers to cover extras.
Make sure you advise the recipient of the
gift to take the time to familiarise him or herself with the device before they
hit the road with it. Also remind them that the mapping software is updated
continuously, and so are the roads, so not to rely solely on the Satnav for
directions, but to also use common sense when driving and avoid being directed
into a ditch, a river or a wall!
